JOB OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Parks Manager, Performs a range of skilled maintenance duties associated with the comprehensive care and maintenance of the City’s parks. This involves park equipment maintenance, landscaping, irrigation systems, park facility upkeep, tree care, and overall aesthetic improvement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs park landscaping tasks such as watering, weeding, mowing, pruning, fertilizing, and repairing.
- Executes tree and shrub planting programs, maintaining the health and appearance of all park vegetation.
- Assesses health and condition of park vegetation, identifying and treating any diseases or pests.
- Takes charge of technical aspects of park operations, including electrical equipment, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance.
- Conducts seasonal duties like winterizing of park facilities and equipment.
- Ensures safe operation and maintenance of parks equipment.
- Responds promptly to emergency situations or complaints from citizens and property owners.
- Maintains daily and monthly activity reports to document quality and efficiency of work.
- Delivers professional training and seminars to staff to assure high work standards.
- Rotates on-call for after-hour emergencies or customer service calls.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Formal Education/Knowledge
- High School Diploma
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in parks and building maintenance, including administration and management of resources
Skills & Knowledge
- Mowing experience preferred
- Comprehensive understanding of park landscaping and maintenance principles.
- Proficient knowledge of equipment and materials used in park maintenance.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend effective solutions.
Certifications and Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license.
- Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Available for on-call duties for emergencies, including after hours.
- Must pass a background check and drug screening.
PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to lift weights ranging from 10-100 lbs.
- Predominantly outdoor work inspecting parks and other related facilities.
- Must be adept at using office equipment and park maintenance tools.
- Must wear Protective Equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, and other OSHA-approved gear as required.
