What are the responsibilities and job description for the JV Boys Basketball Coach position at South Umpqua High School?
South Umpqua High School has an opening for a JV Boys Basketball Coach for the 2026–2027 season. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are passionate about mentoring student athletes and contributing to a positive, team focused culture.
Responsibilities:

Plan, organize, and lead all practices and JV games.

Develop players’ basketball fundamentals and game strategies.

Foster a positive, respectful, and inclusive team culture.

Work collaboratively with the Varsity Head Coach to align program goals and philosophy.

Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
-
Communicate effectively with players, parents/guardians, and school staff.
-
Comply with all school, district, and OSAA (or applicable state association) athletic policies.
Minimum Qualifications:

Prior coaching experience is preferred, with a strong understanding of basketball techniques, strategies, and player development.

Must meet all Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) coaching certification requirements.

Demonstrated knowledge of injury prevention, athletic conditioning, and skill instruction.

Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
-
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to pass required background check.
