Digital Accessibility Specialist

(Part-Time, Non-Exempt)

$34 to $37 per hour

This position will start in January 2026

Position Summary:

Under the direct supervision of the IT Director, this position is responsible for evaluating, improving, and remediating digital content, websites, software applications, and documents to ensure accessibility for internal and external users. The Digital Accessibility Specialist will also provide training to and support to District staff to integrate accessibility into projects as projects start, and to promote accessibility as an element of the District's culture.

Essential Duties:

  • Acting as both a subject matter expert and a change leader, this role will help the District create inclusive digital experiences and maintain ongoing compliance with state and federal accessibility laws.
  • Review and remediate digital content (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web applications) to ensure full compliance with both federal and state of Colorado accessibility laws.
  • Conduct accessibility audits.
  • Convert PDFs into accessible documents and perform thorough PDF remediation to meet accessibility standards.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to websites and software applications that enhance usability and accessibility for all users.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and resources to District staff on accessibility requirements, tools, and best practices.
  • Assist in developing accessibility policies, procedures, and remediation plans.
  • Stay current with accessibility laws, standards, and best practices; conduct periodic audits; and recommend corrective actions.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, trainings, and orientations.
  • Attend work on a regular, reliable, and punctual basis.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field; and one (1) year of experience with assistive technology solutions; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience that produces the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position may be considered.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or have the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various accessibility requirements, including WCAG, Section 508, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and CO 8 CCR 1501-11.
  • Knowledge of accessible graphic design principles preferred.
  • Skilled in document and PDF remediation, web content management systems (CMS), and accessible web and app development practices.
  • Knowledge of remediation and analysis software such as CommonLook.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills to train and support staff across departments with varying levels of technical knowledge.
  • Knowledge in web-based technologies, web design, current web authoring/development software, electronic commerce methods, internet standards and protocols, security, database connectivity.
  • High level of accuracy in reviewing digital materials and ensuring compliance with accessibility standards.
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills to troubleshoot accessibility issues and propose solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information effectively.

Material and Equipment Used:

This position regularly uses office equipment and supplies such as a computer, telephone, printer, copier, scanner, and other office equipment.

Working Environment:

This position primarily works in a busy office environment subject to continuous interruptions and background noises. Moderate mental effort is required. Daily moderate mental pressure exists due to exposure to interpersonal conflicts.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to frequently sit and occasionally walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach and lift, push or pull. Manual dexterity is needed to operate PC and other office equipment. Must exhibit manual dexterity to manipulate keyboard and telephone systems. The ability to talk and hear via the telephone and through face-to-face communication is needed. Vision requirements include near and far acuity, depth perception, and color vision. Upper body strength is a requisite to lift / move a maximum of 45 pounds unassisted. Requires the ability to express and to receive both oral and written communication.
