Adoptions Counselor Job description
Reports to: Adoptions Manager, Director of Impact
Full time, 36-40 hours per week
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with potential adopters in a friendly and welcoming way and speak with them regarding any pets that may be interested in.
- Answer the phones and direct inquiries as needed
- Provide staffing as needed for front counter to answer questions
- Review applications, conduct adoption interviews and process adoptions
- Review inquiries, issues, and respond to customer/adopter questions
- Ensure paperwork for adoptions is completed thoroughly and accurately and is explained to each adopter thoroughly and accurately
- Accept donations in an enthusiastically grateful way, offer to help donors bring in donations from their vehicles, and issue donation receipts
- Process and put away in-kind donations
- Assist with photos and pet adoption descriptions of adoptable pets as needed
- Assist with cleaning lobby bathroom, sweeping/mopping floors and general cleaning of front lobby as needed
- Keep merchandising displays stocked and organized
- Maintain front office signage, decorate for the holidays, and ensure that the front lobby is a tidy and welcoming environment
- Ensuring all kennel cards and information regarding pets is correct and up to date
- Completing follow-up emails after adoptions take place to check in on adopters and their new pets
- Other duties as assigned
Job requirements: MUST have extensive prior pet knowledge regarding typical behaviors and health/medical knowledge (vaccines, preventatives, basic understanding of canine and feline illnesses). Must be free of all pet allergies and comfortable handling all sizes of dogs and cats. Must have a positive, friendly, enthusiastic attitude. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from work. Must be able to comfortably sit, stand, kneel, and crouch for periods of time and must be able to comfortably lift 50 lbs.
