Temporary Day Custodian Secondary Bldg/Central Square

The Human Resources Department is currently accepting online applications for the position of Temporary Day Custodian at the Secondary and Central Square buildings. This position is a full time, 12-month position. The hourly rate is $28.50 per hour, based on the 2024-26 master agreement between South St. Paul School District #6 and Local 70.

Job Summary
The Secondary Building Day Custodian performs cleaning and general maintenance tasks to provide a clean, pleasant, and safe environment for employees, students, and the general public.

Job Functions

• Responsible for setting up, tearing down and cleaning the lunchroom on a daily basis.
• Provide basic maintenance and care for cleaning equipment, building hardware and other building systems; identify items needing repair or replacement, or situations that could become a hazard throughout the building.
• Respond to multiple maintenance calls from the main office on a daily basis.
• Conduct pool maintenance including testing water, adding chemicals and cleaning
• Receive and unload delivery trucks.
• Responsible for building door security.
• Monitor and maintain safety systems.
• Responsible for snow removal on sidewalks and doorways at the Secondary Building and Central Square, includes salting for icy conditions to ensure the safety of building users.
• May perform or assist with plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, pneumatics, grounds work, and
  glass replacement.
• Maintain, and is accountable for, tools and equipment available for use.
• Maintain a neat and orderly work area in conjunction with other employees.
• Fill in for the Secondary Building Engineer as requested.
• Respond to emergency situations after regular hours, as needed.
• Perform other tasks including moving furniture, painting, vandalism cleanup, and cleaning, as requested.
• Other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Second Class Boiler License required or the ability to obtain within approval timeframe.
• Certified Pool Operator License required or the ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
• Five years of experience in building maintenance, or related maintenance preferred.
• Ability to perform routine computer functions, including the use of email, internet navigation and Microsoft Word.
• Demonstrated prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
