Job Title: Vocational Advocate

Department: Launch Program: Cohasset

Weekly Hours: Full Time

Job Summary:

The Vocational/Community Support Advocate (VCSA) assures a safe and caring environment for the Launch participants during program activities. The VCSA will effectively implement the Community Day Based Supports (CDBS) and Vocational curriculums that address the goals and visions of the participant’s individual support plan. The VCSA will provide support, assistance and instruction to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in areas that empower their growth toward self-sufficiency and independence in the workplace and community. The VCSA is a role model for Launch Program participants, parents/guardians, community members, volunteers and staff in presenting a positive and cooperative attitude.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Works as a liaison with Launch program directors and vocational advocates to ensure individual’s vocational and community goals are being worked on and met
  • Responsible for transporting individuals to and from program using company vehicles or own
  • Responsible for assisting with program duties as assigned
  • Works with Launch program directors and individuals to plan work and schedules
  • Work as a part of a team to ensure the program’s vision is being fulfilled
  • Responsible for working with the individuals of the program to build community safety skills
  • Responsible for daily communication with Program Director and Assistant Program Director to review daily schedule and assignments
  • Assists Program Director and other VCSAs in updating program records including emergency and health information, contact lists, monthly progress notes, yearly assessments and participant’s resumes.
  • Is responsible for contributing to a cooperative team approach with other staff members and participants.
  • Positively delegates tasks to participants, assuring that activities are conducted in a healthy, safe, productive, educational and enjoyable manner.
  • Works to foster community relationships within job sites and volunteer settings.
  • Assures/Assists participants to complete jobs to employer’s satisfaction.
  • Implements the CDBS and Vocational curriculums that address the goals and visions of the participant’s individual support plan.
  • Actively engages in staff meeting and team discussions aimed at strengthening service delivery and positive communication among staff members.
  • Maintains, secures and cleans up facility after program ends.
  • Maintain participant’s privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports any suspected allegations of abuse and neglect to the DPPC.
  • Participates in Zoom platform by presenting activities and supporting consumers.
  • Follows all COVID-19 policies and procedures.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Ability to provide direct care in activities of daily living (ADL’s) including but not limited to dressing, eating, toileting and continence, transferring and mobility.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to reach, bend, stand, sit and walk; perform fine motor activities.
  • Ability to drive company vehicles/accessible vans/ personal vehicle to and from various locations

Qualifications: Education & Experience Required:

  • Commitment to providing support/advocacy to individuals who are challenged by a disability
  • Flexibility regarding schedule.
  • Two years’ experience preferred with working with individuals with ID/DD
  • Ability to record data using a computer, enter time worked into an electronic system and receive and send email required.
  • Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately in order to keep documentation up to date and understandable.

Proof of Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent (or higher education degree)

  • Must have a valid driver’s license with positive driving record and ability to travel in the community as needed with own vehicle.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Professional Development/Training:

  • Certification in CPR/First Aid prior to working any single coverage shifts
  • Certification in Safety Care
  • Certification in MAP preferred in within the first year of employment.
  • Minimum of 20 hours of training (both live and online) annually as assigned by supervisor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 per hour
