Job Title: Respite Apartment Support Staff

Department: Remote Support Monitoring

Weekly Hours: 8-24 hours per week

Proposed Schedule:

Shifts for the Respite Apartment are:

  • FRIDAY: 3pm -11pm / 11pm – 7am
  • SATURDAY: 7am – 3pm / 3pm – 11pm / 11pm – 7am
  • SUNDAY: 7am – 3pm

We are currently looking to fill SATURDAY 3pm – 11pm.

We are also looking for per diem staff to fill in when we have a sick call or need extra help – all shifts.

Job Summary:

  • Support Staff work as a team to help individuals with various disabilities (ASD/ID/DD) strengthen their daily living skills with the goal of living more independently.
  • To help achieve this goal, the staff provide quality, person-centered support and training on the weekends at a Respite Apartment on the South Shore.
  • The Respite Apartment is outfitted with Assistive Technology (AT) designed to help develop independent living skills. AT is the foundation of our “smart” apartment and staff are required to learn and utilize a variety of low and high-tech methods to help support the individual’s independence during their stay.

Essential Job Functions:

In this position, Respite Apartment Support Staff use their AT knowledge and training to help our guests learn and strengthen basic skills such as cooking, cleaning, meal planning, transportation, and time management.

On a typical shift, staff will assist individuals both in-person and remotely.

  • In-person support is at the apartment and in the community.
  • Remote support is done using a tablet, iPad, and phone from our South Shore Support Services office located in close proximity to the apartment.

Staff is required to read and understand:

  • Clients’ personal profiles and support documents
  • A weekly email and support plan to assist the guest(s) with their weekend plans and goals
  • Training information: in-person, online and through written documents

Staff is required to:

  • Help implement the needs and support that are documented in the individual’s personal care plan while working with them over the weekend.
  • Write accurate, professional, and timely shift notes for each shift worked.
  • Transport the individuals to local events, work, and shopping during their weekend stays at the apartment. When transporting guests, Respite Support Staff have the option of using their own car with mileage reimbursement or using a company vehicle.

Additional Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Staff must have experience driving, understand the safety of driving others, and have a valid license and clean driving record.
  • Staff must be patient and understanding of neurodivergent conditions and the challenges faced by individuals with these characteristics.
  • Staff must be comfortable with ADL’s or willing to learn.
  • Staff must be comfortable using various AT or willing to learn within 30 days.
  • Staff must have a growth mindset and be flexible and adaptable to changing situations.
  • Staff must be comfortable engaging with our clients both in person and in the community.
  • Staff must keep office and apartment secure, organized and clean while on shift.
  • Staff must always maintain individuals’ privacy and confidentiality.
  • Staff must follow protocols to report incidents as needed.
  • Staff must address crisis intervention proactively and consistent w/Safety Care standards
  • Staff must respect the human rights of all individuals served.
  • Staff must maintain a positive presence with guests and in the community when serving the program.
  • Staff must give adequate lead-time for vacation, sick or personal time requests.
  • Staff must communicate with the participants and their families/caregivers in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Staff must be able to send and receive emails.
  • Staff must be able to complete and submit timesheets in our electronic payroll system accurately and on time.
  • Other duties as assigned by management and individual

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds. 
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, and standing) for extended periods of time.  
  • Must be comfortable driving participants to local job sights and/or community events.

Qualifications: Education & Experience Required:

  • Maintain CPR/First Aid and SafetyCare certifications and agency-required training. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, Excel, sending and receiving emails 
  • Proof of Education:  High School Diploma or GED equivalent (or higher education degree) 
  • Must have reliable transportation available during shift to transport self and individual 
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States 

Professional Development/Training Offered:

  • Certification in CPR/First Aid and SafetyCare prior to working any single coverage shifts
  • Minimum of 20 hours of training (both live and online) annually as assigned by supervisor
  • Complete the introductory training and department training for assistive technology

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Assistive technologies: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Developmental Disabilities: 1 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Driver's License (Required)
