Pupil Adjustment Counselor

Job Summary: Pupil Adjustment Counselor Part Time 75% FTE South Shore Charter Public School (SSCPS) is a diverse kindergarten through grade twelve free public charter school that serves 1,200 students. Our mission, Inspiring every student to excel in academics, service, and life, guides all we do as an educational institution. Our students come from over thirty-one communities along the South Shore; the top five districts our students come to us from are Weymouth, Brockton, Randolph, Rockland, and Abington. Our families bring a panoply of cultural and racial diversity to our community, representing many different countries of origin with over 40 different languages spoken at home. To make up the SSCPS student body, 59% of our students are people of color and 9% of our student body are English Language Learners. The Pupil Adjustment Counselor works with individuals, groups, and families to facilitate students’ adjustment and success within the school environment. The counselor will address a variety of student issues including: mental illness, family stress, and social/emotional disorders. Reports to: Director of Student Services Status: FTE = 75% = 30 hours per week 10 Month Contract Essential Job Functions:

Support the diversity of the student population through cultural and family engagement and the inclusion of diverse learners throughout the school.

Provide individual and/or group counseling to students, as needed relative to social and emotional issues that impact academic performance.

Provide direct service for individuals identified through Individual Education Plan's (IEP) and 504 Accommodation Plans.

Observe students in the classroom and provide consultation to the teachers, when necessary.

Provide social skill training to students as well as follow up consultation as needed.

Coordinate with outside agencies for students who have hospital or therapeutic placements due to emotional disabilities.

Provide Crisis Intervention: Conflict mediation, de-escalation, peer mediation, including filing 51A.

Member of the Crisis Team.

Assist with functional behavior assessments for identified students and assist writing behavioral plans as needed.

Maintain appropriate documentation including progress reports for students on IEP caseload.

Collaborate with faculty and staff on students’ needs and progress.

Liaison with outside providers and therapists. Make outside referrals as needed.

Supervise Anti-bullying group in HS.

Collaborate with School Nurse and School Psychologist.

Be available for Student Support Teams, as needed.

Attend IEP and 504 meetings, when requested.

Attend and participate in school and department staff meetings.

Assist with Program Quality Assurance audits.

Participate in DESE hearings or mediations as needed.

Any additional duties requested by the Director of Student Services.

Salary : $46,264 - $82,923
