Job Title: Painter
Reports to: Maintanence Supervisor

Primary Purpose:
This position is responsible for applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect exterior and interior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and structures throughout the district
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED Valid
Texas driver's license
Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Nonrefundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by the employee
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in painting trade.
- Ability to properly apply paint.
- Knowledge of and ability to mix paint to match colors.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally).
- Ability to operate hand and power tools.
- Ability to work independently
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Two years' experience in residential or commercial painting (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Maintenance and Repair
- Prepare surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler. Tape, float, and texture walls and ceilings.
- Select premixed paints or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint to match specified colors.
- Paint surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stain, seal, and varnish wood surfaces.
- Repair and refinish furniture, paint school district buildings and playground equipment.
- Erect scaffolding, set up ladders, or use hoists to perform tasks above ground level.
- Pick up and deliver painting supplies to campuses; maintain; delivery records.
- Receive and complete work orders. Identify and complete needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment using established inspection procedures. Maintain accurate records and material and labor used.
- Maintain inventory of tools and assist with inventory control of materials and equipment.
- Inspect jobs after completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Work with building principal and supervisors to complete projects.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Driver
Operate light truck to transport supplies and equipment throughout district
Safety
- Operate equipment and use tools following established safety procedures
- Ensure that equipment is in safe condition to operate
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Correct unsafe conditions in the area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately
- Handle and dispose of paint, stain, varnish, and other chemicals according to established procedures
- Maintain tools and equipment and perform preventive maintenance as required

Assume additional workload and job related duties as required and/or assigned.

Tools/Equipment Used: Painting and drywall tools and equipment including brush, roller, spray equipment, sand and water blaster; air compressor, ladder, scaffolding small hand tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van
Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis
Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district wide travel
