What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook- Part time position at South Prairie Memory Care?
Primary Purpose The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, safe, and appealing meals to residents in our memory care community. This position works under the direction of the Dietary Manager and contributes to a positive dining experience while maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in food preparation and cooking required.
- Current Certified Food Protection Manager certificate (ServSafe or equivalent) preferred.
- Ability to read and follow recipes and menus.
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Compassionate and patient demeanor when working with older adults, including those with dementia.
Essential Job Functions
- Prepare and cook meals according to the planned menu, daily census, and resident dietary needs/preferences.
- Follow proper food handling, storage, thawing, cooking, holding, and reheating procedures to ensure food safety.
- Monitor and document food temperatures as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and work areas at all times.
- Assist with receiving and storing food and supplies properly.
- Minimize waste and practice portion control appropriate for the senior population.
- Plate and present meals attractively.
- Work cooperatively with the Dietary Manager and other food service staff.
- Report any equipment issues or supply needs to the Dietary Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager or Executive Director.
Work Environment
- Primarily in the kitchen and dining areas.
- Exposure to heat, cold, cleaning chemicals, and moderate noise.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally with proper technique.
