Join our vibrant summer team as a Summer Recreation Day Camp Group Leader! In this dynamic leadership role, you will oversee daily camp activities, foster a safe and inclusive environment, and inspire children to explore, learn, and grow through engaging recreational programs. Applicant must be 18 or older and graduated from high school.
Responsibilities
- This is a 6-week part-time position; applicants must be available from June 15- July 24, Monday- Friday from 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM (no exceptions)
- Manage a team including a head counselor and 3- 4 counselors who will be supervising groups of children (5 by Aug 1 and starting K- rising 6th graders) during daily camp activities, ensuring safety and engagement at all times.
- Facilitate a diverse range of recreational activities, including sports, arts and crafts, theater performances, and outdoor games
- Manage behavior effectively using positive reinforcement techniques and behavior management strategies
- Ensure all activities adhere to safety protocols; administer basic first aid when necessary and respond promptly to emergencies
- Support children with special needs or those requiring additional assistance by implementing inclusive practices and collaborating with specialized staff when needed
- Foster a welcoming environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and fun for all participants
- Maintain clear communication with the director regarding camper progress or concerns (as appropriate)
Experience
- Prior experience working with children in settings such as daycare, babysitting, tutoring, or camp programs is highly desirable
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and early childhood education best practices
- Skills in classroom management and behavior management techniques to create positive learning environments
- Certification in first aid and CPR is preferred; training can be provided if necessary
- Experience in sports coaching, theater arts, or working with students enhances your ability to lead diverse activities effectively
- Familiarity with special education needs adds value to supporting all campers’ well-being
- Current PA Act 153 clearances required
