A boutique real estate firm specializing in commercial and residential assets is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its growing team. This position offers the opportunity to advance within a fast-paced, exciting company with assets and upcoming developments across DTLA, West Hollywood, Hollywood, Echo Park, and Long Beach.
Reports To: Controller
Position Summary: The Accounting Manager supports the Controller in overseeing the accounting and financial operations of a real estate portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, and managing day-to-day property accounting activities. The Assistant Controller works closely with property management, ownership, and external partners to ensure timely and accurate financial information.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Assist in the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple properties and entities
- Ensure accuracy of general ledger entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Review and approve journal entries, bank reconciliations, and accruals
- Support year-end close, audits, and tax preparation processes
- Property Accounting Oversight
- Oversee property-level accounting including rent rolls, CAM reconciliations, operating expenses, and revenue recognition
- Review and analyze variance reports comparing actual results to budget
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and company accounting policies
- Ensure timely and accurate tax payments and other entity-specific obligations
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and periodic forecasts
- Monitor budget performance and identify trends or risks
- Work with property management teams to understand operational drivers affecting financial performance
Internal Controls & Process Improvement
- Help maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency
- Assist with optimization of property management and accounting software Leadership & Collaboration
- Act as a liaison between accounting, property management, and ownership groups
- Provide timely responses to ownership, lender, and investor inquiries
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred 4 years of accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in property or real estate accounting
- Experience with multi-entity and multi-property accounting structures
- Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and real estate accounting principles
- Proficiency in property management/accounting software (e.g., AppFolio, Yardi, or similar)
Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with commercial, multifamily, and/or mixed-use portfolios
- Familiarity with investor reporting, distributions, and partnership accounting
- Knowledge of CAM reconciliations, tax coordination, and lender reporting
