Job Title: Exploring Careers Teacher (9th Grade)
Position Overview:
The Exploring Careers course is designed to be taught in 9th grade as an introduction to career pathways and informed decision-making. This course was developed to provide students with foundational knowledge in self-development, career exploration, and planning for their future.
Instruction includes content aligned with Advance CTE’s National Career Clusters Framework (Revised 2024), with an emphasis on career pathways, personal decision-making, and financial literacy.
Contract Length:
This is a 199-day contract position.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education
- Must hold a valid 5-year standard Mississippi Educator License.
2. Technology Literacy
- Must demonstrate technology competency by achieving the required minimum score on an assessment approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE).
- Accepted assessments include IC3 or other MDE-approved substitutes.
3. Required Training and Certifications
- Completion of an MDE-approved certification for online learning (workshop, module, or course).
- Completion of the MDE-approved Exploring Careers Certification (workshop, module, or course).
Licensure Information:
- Applicants meeting all requirements will be issued a 916 endorsement (5-year license).
- Applicants who meet the standard 5-year license requirement but have not completed all additional requirements may be issued a 3-year endorsement, with all requirements to be completed prior to expiration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with high school students
- Strong understanding of career pathways and workforce readiness
- Ability to integrate technology and real-world applications into instruction
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver engaging instruction focused on career exploration and planning
- Guide students in understanding career clusters and pathways
- Support students in developing decision-making and financial literacy skills
- Collaborate with CTE staff and promote all SPHS CTE programs.
