Position Overview
Southmont High School is seeking a collaborative, student-centered instructional leader to serve as Assistant Principal beginning July 1, 2026. The Assistant Principal will work closely with the Principal, faculty, staff, students, families, and community partners to promote academic excellence, positive school culture, and operational effectiveness.
This position plays a key role in advancing the school's mission of preparing students for success in college, career, and life.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Support curriculum development, instructional improvement, and assessment practices
- Assist with teacher evaluation and professional growth initiatives
- Analyze student achievement data to inform school improvement strategies
Student Services & Culture
- Oversee student discipline using restorative and progressive practices
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Supervise attendance, student activities, and behavior interventions
- Coordinate with counselors and support staff to ensure student success
Operations & Administration
- Assist in daily school operations and supervision of staff
- Support scheduling, testing coordination, and compliance requirements
- Help develop and implement school safety procedures
- Serve as acting principal in the principal's absence
- All other duties as assigned
Family & Community Engagement
- Foster strong relationships with families and community stakeholders
- Communicate clearly and consistently with students, staff, and parents
- Represent the school at district and community events
Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Educational Leadership or related field
- Valid Indiana Administrator License
- Minimum of 3–5 years of successful teaching experience
- Strong knowledge of secondary school operations and student development
Preferred:
- Previous administrative or leadership experience at the high school level
- Experience with data-driven school improvement
- Strong background in student discipline and restorative practices
