Life Skills/Essential Skills Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a valid Indiana teaching license: Mild or Intense Intervention.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Special Education Teacher of Record for students who receive part-time or full-time instruction within an Essential Skills classroom.
1. Perform all duties of Teacher of Record.
2. Provide specially designed instruction for students to demonstrate proficiency toward the Alternate Academic Standards, depending on individualized student needs.
3. Develop visual supports and structured work systems for students and ensure implementation with fidelity across all settings.
4. Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments as appropriate for individual students.
5. Develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans with fidelity.
6. Collect academic and behavioral progress monitoring data to inform instruction.
7. Collaborate with general education teachers to modify instruction and/or ensure accommodations to support engagement within the general education classroom as appropriate for individual students.
8. Collaborate with all special education team members, including Speech-Language Pathologists and Occupational and Physical Therapists, to ensure students' individualized needs are met.
9. Ensure therapists' recommendations are implemented throughout the students' day to support the generalization of skills (i.e., use of low-tech / high-tech AAC devices, positioning during various activities, implementing sensory activities, etc.)
10. Collaborate with the building level and district administration.
11. Build the Instructional Assistants' capacity regarding instruction, behavior support, and the carryover of the student's IEP.
12. Plan, coordinate, notify and implement all meetings and conferences for all students for whom you are Teacher of Record.
13. Develop and implement compliant, meaningful IEPs and lead case conferences for students on caseload.
13. Provide instruction and support for self-care skills, including toileting, as appropriate for individual students.
14. Establish and maintain positive relationships with families.
15. Maintain compliance with Article 7.
16. Maintain confidentiality.
