Overview
South Lyon East High School is looking to add a Varsity Assistant Coach to our program. Our program is looking to add a Defensive Assistant Coach to our staff, preferably in the Front 7. Preference will be given to those that have college playing or coaching experience, or have coached for multiple years at the high school level. South Lyon East is in the Metro Detroit area, in a growing school district, and currently competes at the Division 2 level in football. South Lyon East has made the Playoffs 4 of the last 5 seasons. Duties
- Assist in planning and conducting football practices that focus on skill development, teamwork, and game strategies
- Support the head coach during games by providing on-field guidance and motivating players
- Help monitor player behavior, enforce team rules, and promote positive conduct both during practices and competitions
- Contribute to the development of training drills that incorporate elements of martial arts such as Karate or Judo to enhance agility and discipline
- Foster a safe environment by supervising players during activities, ensuring proper use of equipment, and managing risk during drills like climbing or cheerleading routines
- Collaborate with other coaching staff to evaluate player progress and identify areas for improvement
- Engage with students’ families to communicate team updates and encourage continued participation in sports activities
Requirements
- Prior experience in sports coaching or teaching physical education is highly desirable
- Background in football or related sports such as basketball or cheerleading is preferred
- Knowledge of martial arts disciplines like Karate, Judo, or other martial arts enhances coaching versatility
- Experience working with children or students in childcare settings or health clubs is advantageous
- Strong behavior management skills to motivate young athletes and maintain discipline on and off the field
- Ability to lead activities involving swimming or climbing safely when integrated into training sessions
- Passion for promoting health, fitness, teamwork, and personal development among youth
