Job Summary
:

The position provides early child development programming and care for children ages six weeks to three years. Under the supervision of the Early Learning Administrator, the Supervisor works to offer a safe, inclusive, enriching, developmentally and culturally appropriate experience for children and parents. The position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SLSD Early Childhood Development Center located at Cottage Grove High School that includes training and assigning work to educational assistants and student volunteers, ensuring conformance with state licensing requirements and District policy and practices.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Practice and model trauma-informed and cultural sensitivity with children, families, staff and students.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate children’s activities.
  • Lift, hold and carry infants and toddlers.
  • Communicate with parents of children about daily activities and development.
  • Develop center schedules that include meals, naps, play, diaper changing and toileting, outside play, drop-off, pickup.
  • Oversee physical environment of center to include set up and cleaning of indoor rooms and outdoor play areas, sanitation of bedding, diapering areas, dishes, toys, equipment and laundry.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate appropriate developmental screenings, assessments and child observations.
  • Work with parents to make appropriate referrals to community resources such as Early Childhood CARES, Head Start, DHS, etc.
  • Coordinate the scheduling and training/orientation of center staff, student aides and substitutes.
  • Manage staff schedules including absences and substitutes to ensure proper coverage.
  • Facilitate billing and payment collection from applicable agencies and parents.
  • Maintain records that include sign-in/out sheets, billing forms, health, immunization and injury records, activity plans, required professional development and others required by DELC and the State of Oregon.
  • Maintain all licensure and certification requirements.
  • Maintain Infant and Adult Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
  • Prepare weekly/monthly reports as directed by supervisor.
  • Meet with Early Childhood teacher regarding student aides.
  • Professionally represent SLSD in interactions with parents, community, staff, and students.
  • Interact and develop working relationships with professionals, staff, children and their families using positive interpersonal communication.
  • Work flexible hours as needed.
  • Must be self-motivated and reliable.
  • Maintain confidentiality, sensitivity and discretion in communication and record keeping.
  • Read, interpret and follow SLSD rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Attend work regularly and punctually.
  • Attend staff meetings and other required meetings.
  • Perform all other job-related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

  • Education and/or Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, development or an Associate’s degree or equivalent educational experience, and at least 2 years of relevant work experience in an early childhood program is required. Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the job requirements will be considered.
    • Prior management and supervisory experience.
    • Bilingual Spanish language skills preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Effective communication skills are essential for conflict resolution, training, and day-to-day management duties. Demonstrated ability to establish strong interpersonal relationships with SLSD personnel and other agency staff and community members. Ability to maintain integrity and confidential information related to students, staff, or district patrons.


  • Language Skills:
    Ability to communicate fluently verbally and effectively in writing in English. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from parents, staff, or members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Demonstrated ability to compose, produce clear, coherent professional documents and deliver professional presentations to various stakeholder groups


  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Able to read, understand and effectively train others in department’s standards and guidelines.


  • Computer Skills: Ability to proficiently use the following programs strongly preferred: Google Apps, MS Word, Excel, email internet applications and specialized software programs.


  • Other Skills and Abilities:
    Ability to appropriately communicate with diverse staff and others including vendors and other agencies. Ability to exercise good judgment and work in an environment with frequent interruptions.


  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
    Certificates as determined by the district including a valid Oregon Driver License and First Aid Card (Infant CPR).
