District Substitute - South Lake High School

 

Job Goal: 

To perform daily and/or long-term substitute teaching duties requiring knowledge of district rules, regulations, practices, and procedures. The substitute teacher creates and maintains a safe, caring learning environment for students, facilitates learning and communication within the school community, collaborates with parents to support student success, and works with administration to maintain a high-quality educational program while engaging in continuous professional growth. 

 

Reports to: Superintendent of Schools or his designee

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 60 semester hours of satisfactory college credit (grade "C" or better) from one or more regionally accredited two-year or four-year colleges or universities.
  • Michigan teaching certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications and technology.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and excellent communication and public relations abilities, including courtesy, tact, and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Facilitate student learning.
  • Understand and implement curriculum with fidelity.
  • Assist in the selection of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teachers and support staff.
  • Communicate and work effectively with parents and guardians.
  • Assess student progress and maintain records of student learning and growth.
  • Coordinate with teachers and staff within the building and across the district.
  • Participate in required professional development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to substitute teaching at various grade levels and district buildings.

Employment Conditions:

  • Employees shall comply with all Board policies and applicable federal and state laws and regulations, including but not limited to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), applicable non-discrimination requirements, and related educational regulations.
  • Employees shall maintain all required certifications, training, and licensing requirements.
  • Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate and acceptable.            

ADA Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow lesson plans, schedules, student records, and written instructions.
  • Ability to use computers, educational technology, district software, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to supervise students and maintain awareness of classroom, playground, cafeteria, and other school environments.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout classrooms and school buildings for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment and respond appropriately to student behaviors and emergencies.
  • Ability to monitor student activities and provide instructional support in a variety of educational settings.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move classroom materials, supplies, and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and assist students as necessary.
  • Ability to travel between district buildings and classrooms as assigned.
  • Ability to attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.
  • Ability to maintain regular, reliable attendance and arrive punctually for assigned workdays.

Terms of Employment: Assignment is for 180 instructional school days, 7.5 hours per day

 

Base Salary Range:               

Daily Substitute Rate - $120.00

District Substitute Rate (non-certified) - $135.00

District Substitute Rate (certified) - $165.00

Long-Term Assignment Substitute Rate (certified) - $165 for days 1-60 and $200.00 for days 61

 

**The Long-Term Assignment Rate: Applies to substitute teachers who are assigned to a vacant teaching position within the scope of their valid teaching certification.
