E-Bike Rental Shop Associate

Position Summary
South Lake E-Bikes is seeking a dependable, friendly, and safety-focused Rental Shop Associate to help operate our electric bike rental location. This position is responsible for preparing rental bikes, assisting customers, managing reservations, maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the shop, and helping ensure every customer has a safe and enjoyable experience.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, communicating with customers, handling bicycles, and staying organized during busy rental periods.
Primary Responsibilities
- Open and close the rental shop according to established procedures.
- Review daily reservations and prepare the correct bikes before customers arrive.
- Check customers in and explain rental procedures, bike controls, locks, safety requirements, and recommended riding routes.
- Assist customers with properly fitting helmets and adjusting seat heights.
- Complete a safety inspection before every rental, including:
- Testing the front and rear brakes.
- Checking the battery charge and electrical system.
- Confirming the front wheel and other components are secure.
- Checking the seat post for proper alignment and tightness.
- Inspecting displays, tires, locks, bags, and accessories.
- Clean and inspect bikes before and after each rental.
- Report damaged bikes, mechanical problems, accidents, or unusual customer concerns to management immediately.
- Process reservations, rental agreements, payments, deposits, refunds, and customer information using the company’s booking and point-of-sale systems.
- Answer phone calls and respond to customer questions about reservations, pricing, bike options, availability, and local riding areas.
- Help customers select the appropriate bike based on comfort, experience, group size, and intended use.
- Keep the shop, rental area, bikes, helmets, tools, and supplies clean and organized.
- Monitor bike availability and communicate scheduling or inventory concerns to management.
- Assist customers returning bikes and document any damage, missing equipment, or mechanical concerns.
- Help move, organize, charge, and securely store rental bikes.
- Follow all company safety, customer-service, and accident-reporting procedures.
- Perform other rental shop duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong customer-service and communication skills.
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to follow written procedures.
- Comfortable using computers, reservation systems, and point-of-sale equipment.
- Able to remain professional and calm during busy periods or difficult customer situations.
- Basic bicycle knowledge is helpful but not required.
- Willingness to learn how to operate, inspect, and safely explain electric bikes.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be available to work weekends, holidays, and peak summer periods as scheduled.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to move, lift, and organize electric bicycles and rental equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in changing weather conditions.
