Summary:

 

This special education support position will be assigned to the Office of Special Services and report to the Executive Director of Special Services. The position will provide support for the development of academic and behavioral interventions, as well as program placements for students with disabilities throughout the district. This support position must be able to assist teachers in matters of compliance. In addition, this position will support Professional Learning Communities, accommodations, provide professional learning activities, and perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a team member with responsibility to assist with development and implementation of school based MTSS, assists with compliance and leads discussions on special education placement options;
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement rigorous special education instruction, aligned to Common Core State Standards (CCSS);
  • Maintain a knowledge of the legal requirements related to funding and share that information with staff as appropriate;
  • Provides guidance (coach/mentor) staff associated with the academic programs;
  • Maintains records to support the accountability requirements of the state-funded program;
  • Analyzes resources and best practices to assist in making program recommendations;
  • Assist with development of program assessment and accountability tools;
  • Assist with professional development programs, including documentation for college credit and clock hour offerings;
  • Assist with coordination of student assessment activities;
  • Provide support within the curriculum department as needed for implementation of the program;
  • Participates in staff meetings and planning;
  • Works cooperatively with department and building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate required;
  • Master’s degree in special education
  • Five (5) years successful teaching experience preferred;
  • Experience with facilitation of diverse groups and program development/implementation preferred;
  • Required to work a flexible work schedule, including supervision of current and new curriculum and professional development activities;
  • Demonstrated knowledge in computer literacy, student assessment and a strong background in curriculum and instruction development preferred;
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive relationships, possess a strong professional orientation and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, conduct and evaluate and educational program, including strong assessment techniques;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required;
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self and others;
  • Preferred experience developing programs for students with autism spectrum disorders.
