Comments: This is a 1.0 FTE continuing position beginning with the 2026-2027 school year.


Job Summary:
Works with a variety of district and building teams to assist with the development and implementation of behavior interventions. The behavior specialist will also provide professional development and coaching to District staff related to positive behavior supports and tiered systems of intervention. Works directly with teachers and paraprofessionals in a school setting providing classroom-based modeling, coaching, and student-specific interventions; facilitates teacher inquiry and related professional development. Provides support for restorative student group work.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates as a team member with responsibility for coordinating research based behavioral interventions;
  • Modifies behavior intervention programs to meet individual student needs;
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to achieve student readiness to benefit from instruction and maximize participation;
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior;
  • Assists in the development of procedures and training materials for the purpose of providing a safe and effective educational environment for students with challenging behavior;
  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse student population;
  • Provides guidance on special education compliance;
  • Facilitates department/grade level, building collaboration;
  • Facilitates student groups to support/address behavior issues and build capacity to participate as needed.
  • Participates in staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit

Minimum Requirements:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate or Education Staff Associate Certificate (ESA) preferred with experience and certification in special education. BCBA Preferred;
  • 3-5 years of experience in developing and implementing behavior plans and/or teacher behavior strategies and/or working in-depth with families, agencies and schools;
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training for building administrators, teachers, and classified staff;
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research-based intervention in a multi-tiered system of support, or other positive behavioral support program;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in behavioral methods by participating in classes, workshops, in-services, peer coaching, reading, ;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and provide effective professional development;
  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals;
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others.
