Summary:

Responsible for the overall cleanliness, sanitation, security, safety and maintenance of the assigned buildings, grounds, and equipment.

 

Job Tasks:

  • Assigns work to and trains other building custodians under direction of common supervisor of record for the purpose of ensuring a well-organized custodial effort and a safe, efficient, service-oriented staff.
  • Uses verbal and written communication skills to clearly convey information to management and staff on operational, safety and financial matters (e.g. AHERA inspections, lead paint rules, playground/field inspections, overtime rotation lists, inventories and budget reports, etc., and attends district head custodian meetings) for the purpose of maintaining an efficient, well documented building custodial program.
  • Maintains inventory of custodial supplies for the purpose of ensuring the availability of cleaning supplies for assigned staff.
  • Opens and Closes buildings for the purpose of maintaining a safe, secure facility.
  • Cleans assigned facilities for the purpose of maintaining a clean, healthful environment.
  • Performs minor facility and equipment repairs for the purpose of maintaining the physical condition of the facility.
  • Monitors safety of the building for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students, visitors and staff.
  • Responds to staff requests and minor emergencies and takes the appropriate action for the purpose of ensuring a clean, safe, well maintained building environment.
  • Cleans and Maintains classrooms and offices for the purpose of maintaining a clean, orderly office and classroom environment.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly environment in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch for the purpose of ensuring that students have a clean, safe and inviting place to eat their meals.
  • Assists with approved after school activities (e.g. coordinating access to facilities and equipment patrolling building and parking lot areas; and ensuring the safety of students, staff and visitors whenever present) for the purpose of promoting the safe and responsible community use of district resources.
  • Leads and Organizes the efforts of an assigned custodial shift at the high school (e.g. coordinates and shares leadership responsibilities with two other shift lead custodians) for the purpose of ensuring the success of a 24 hour per day custodial function in support of high school curricular, athletic and community support operations.
  • Operates forklift for the purpose of performing efficient building material receiving and shipping function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of promoting the efficient operation of the school district.

  • Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, directions regarding precautions and recommended use of chemicals, equipment or products;
  • Must be willing and able to abide by safety rules/standards and wear required safety equipment;
  • Must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted;
  • Must present a neat, clean appearance.
  • Exhibits reliable attendance and punctuality in reporting to work.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Moderate physical demand, occasionally required to lift and carry up to (50) fifty pounds;
  • Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 70% walking, and 20% standing.  The job is performed under a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere.

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent;
  • Prior related work experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred;
  • Must understand and adhere to prescribed safety procedures.

Continuing Education/Training:

  • Complete and stay current on safety awareness training (which includes forklift and personnel lift safety, asbestos safety, bloodborne pathogen and safe lifting practices) as directed.

Clearances:

  • Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.

Certificates:

  • First Aid and CPR Certification may be required;
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License may be required.
