The City of South Jordan is hiring full time Lateral Firefighter Paramedics to join our Fire Department. This position provides emergency medical services, firefighting, and rescue support across a wide variety of incidents. Eligible candidates must have at least one year of verifiable full-time experience as Firefighter Paramedic / EMT.
Key Responsibilities:
- Respond to fire, rescue, medical, and hazardous materials emergencies
- Provide advanced and basic life support; assess, treat, and transport patients
- Perform fire suppression activities including search and rescue, ventilation, and overhaul
- Operate and maintain firefighting and emergency medical equipment
- Conduct life safety inspections, hydrant testing, and pre-incident planning
- Deliver public education programs on safety and emergency preparedness
- Participate in ongoing training, station maintenance, and equipment readiness.
- Complete reports, documentation, and administrative tasks
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Utah Class D Driver License
- Utah Paramedic license
- Must have at least one year of verifiable, full-time firefighting experience
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advance Life Support Certification
- CPR certification for healthcare providers
- Utah Firefighter II and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications or ability to obtain
- Must meet department physical ability standards
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of emergency medical procedures, fire suppression tactics, and rescue operations
- Proficient in the use of firefighting and EMS equipment
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to make sound decisions in high-stress situations
- Comfortable working in all weather conditions and high-risk environments
Work Conditions:
- Exposure to hazardous conditions including fire, smoke, extreme temperatures, and traumatic incidents.
- Requires physical strength, endurance, and mental resilience.
- Work schedule includes rotating 48-hour shifts, weekends, holidays, and possible emergency call-outs.
- Involves extended periods of physical exertion and irregular sleep
