SUBJECT: Childcare Lead Teacher REPORTS TO: Building Principal The Worcester Public Schools offers infant and toddler childcare to parenting students who attend South Community High School. The District is seeking a Lead Teacher for its infant/toddler childcare program. The Lead Teacher will oversee teacher(s) and assistant teacher(s) who are working with infants, toddlers, and pre-school age children in a childcare program within South Community High School established to provide childcare services for teen parents. The staff, including the Lead Teacher, will also provide information, guidance, and support to the parents of the children in the childcare program. This support includes home visits as appropriate. The Lead Teacher is also responsible for the daily operations of the program including ensuring that students are provided with a safe and appropriate learning environment. The work year for this position is 200 days consisting of the 180 days that students report to school in the Worcester Public Schools plus 10 days prior to the start of the students' year and 5 days after the end of the students' year. RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Establish and maintain a safe and supervised environment in which children can learn at their own pace, interact comfortably with adults, and have the opportunity to participate in individual and group activities using developmentally appropriate practices. 2. Plan and implement an age appropriate and culturally sensitive curriculum and activities that develop self esteem and social skills for the children and teen parents using Teaching Strategies Gold. Curriculum should provide opportunities for children to strengthen both their cognitive and social skills. 3. Communicate with parents on a regular basis both written and verbally regarding the progress of their child. 4. Encourage and promote parents’ role as primary educator of their child by modeling appropriate interactions, discussing child development and educating through example. 5. Initiate and support families in need of additional interventions. 6. Conduct quarterly assessments using Teaching Strategies Gold. 7. Use the Strengthening Families Framework to promote parent and family engagement. Work in partnership with key staff and the community to engage all families. 8. Plan and participate in staff meetings and ensure that all staff are appropriately certified including EEC, first aid, and CPR certification. Ensure that the program is in compliance with all state and federal licensing requirements. 9. Supervise teachers, assistant teachers, student interns and volunteers in the program. 10. Maintain EEC Professional Qualifications (PQ) Registry. 11. Conduct home visits as needed and monitor the home visits of program staff. 12. Perform other duties as requested by the Supervisor. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A.A. in Early Childhood Education or Human Services. 2. 3 years working with infants, toddlers and/or preschool age children 3. 3 years of experience working with teen parents 4. Licensed as an Infant-Toddler Lead Teacher and also a Preschool Lead Teacher by MA EEC (Level 2 certification) 5. Ability to work with families and children of diverse cultural backgrounds 6. Basic knowledge of computers 7. The ability to lift 40 pounds. 8. Strong communication skills in bother verbal and written form 9. Knowledge of child growth and development (Infant/Toddler). PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bilingual (Spanish/English) 2. B.A. in Early Childhood Education 3. Experience supervising or managing staff 4. Experienced with conducting home visits as part of a comprehensive child care program SALARY: $56,612 for 200 days (described above). WORKDAY: 7:00AM - 3:00PM Monday through Friday. The position includes 5 PTO days and 15 sick days annually.
