Purpose: The purpose of the Special Education Associate position is to provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students with special needs, allowing them to attend a regular classroom setting on a regular basis.
Reports to: Building Principal
Education Preferred: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
Responsibilities:
- Work with physically impaired and special needs students on a daily basis under the direction of special education and general education teachers.
- React quickly and calmly in a crisis.
- Learn IEP procedures, physical therapy, assistive technology and devices, and occupational therapy programs.
- Communicate with extreme patience to students with special needs or behavioral problems.
- Interact in a positive manner with students, faculty, parents, and other staff members
