South Glens Falls CSD has a vacancy for an elementary principal at Moreau Elementary starting August 1, 2026

Reports to: Superintendent or designee

Supervises: Teachers, pupil personnel staff, and support staff

Purpose of Position: To utilize leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student.

Terms of Employment: 11 month position. Salary and working conditions in accordance with the agreement between the Superintendent and the South Glens Falls Administrators' Association. Performance of this position and its responsibilities will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Building leadership
    • Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations for all students and staff for academic performance and responsibility for self and others;
    • Establishes and maintains an emotionally healthy and physically safe environment conducive to the total educational development of the students, professional development of the staff, and provides for emergency situations;
    • Plans, organizes, coordinates supervision, and directs the implementation of all school-related activities;
    • Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports;
    • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required and/or appropriate to the school's administration;
    • Assumes responsibilities for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students;
    • Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes;
    • Plans and supervises fire drills and other emergency preparedness drills as required by law and district policies and procedures;
    • Provides for adequate inventories of school property and for the security and accountability for that property;
    • Administers the school budget as approved, authorizes expenditure requests from the approved budget and recommends transfers between budget categories as required;
    • Assesses condition of school building - Projects space, equipment and facility implications for new instructional programs and/or initiatives;
    • Keeps the superintendent informed of the school's activities and problems.
    • Provides leadership to faculty, staff and other groups within the building such as Home School Association.
    • Establishes and maintains a current Building Safety Plan and applicable procedures to ensure safety and security in the building and on the grounds at all times.
  • Instructional leadership
    • Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction on instructional best practices, strategies and professional development needs;
    • Establishes and maintains a culture of collegiality within the framework of Professional Learning Communities;
    • Initiates and encourages teacher use of student data from local and state assessments to improve instruction;
    • Monitors and oversees the implementation of local and state assessments;
    • Assists with the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum, including but not limited to serving on curriculum committees;
    • Supervises the school's teaching process as outlined in the APPR agreement;
    • Assists with the development and implementation of educational technology initiatives;
    • Works to enhance the school schedule to maximize instruction time;
    • Supervises all activities and programs that are outgrowths of the school's curriculum.
    • Plans, coordinates, and conducts with other District Elementary Principals an annual screening program for the registration of incoming kindergarten pupils.
    • Cooperates in facilitating and ensuring an orderly transition of students, communicating student needs from elementary to the middle school.
    • Establishes provision for enriched instruction of all students inclusive of students with disabilities and those requiring Academic Intervention Services.
  • Personnel and Employee Relations
    • Schedules, supervises and evaluates the assignments of faculty and support personnel in the building; provides direction for strengthening instructional strategies and procedures where directed and necessary;
    • Orients newly assigned/hired staff members and assists in their development, as appropriate;
    • Conducts staff meetings on a regular basis for proper functioning of the school and to keep staff members informed of such things as policy changes and new programs;
    • Recommends, according to established procedures, the removal of a teacher or other staff member whose work is unsatisfactory;
    • Assists with the in-service training/professional development provided on superintendent's conference days;
    • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and hiring of new staff for the building;
    • Delegates authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
    • Maintains pupil management in the building in compliance with the Code of Conduct and in transportation through bus referrals, follow-ups on student absenteeism, situations regarding possible abuse/neglect and filing PINS as warranted and justified.
    • Provides placement, orientation, and direction for substitute teachers and teacher aides and maintains reports of their employment success and evaluations.
  • Student/Parent/Community Relations
    • Maintains active two-way communications with students, parents, and the community through the use of technology and other media;
    • Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers;
    • Supervises and evaluates the school's extracurricular program, including but not limited to all clubs and activities;
    • Acts as a liaison between the school and the community, interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.
  • Other Duties
    • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field;
    • Participates and supports the Strategic Plan;
    • Participates in building department meetings, district-level meetings, Board meetings, negotiation meetings, and such other meetings as are required or appropriate;
    • Responds to written and oral requests for information;
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: NYS Certification – SAS, SDA, SBL, or Administrator.
  • Preferred Requirements: Evidence of successful administrative experience.
