We are seeking an experienced Working Sawmill Supervisor who leads from the front, working alongside the crew while directing daily mill operations.
Position Summary/ Job Description
This is a physically active, equipment-operating supervisory role responsible for overseeing log breakdown, lumber production, quality control, machine maintenance, warehouse organization, and crew leadership.
Primary Responsibilities
- Operate sawmill equipment to cut logs into dimensional lumber and specialty timber materials
- Inspect and measure cut lumber to ensure quality standards are met
- Perform and oversee routine maintenance, cleaning, and safety checks of sawmill machinery and mill work areas
- Supervise daily production flow, crew performance, and output expectations
- Train and mentor employees in equipment operation, safety protocols, and production goals
- Assist in stacking, sorting, and organizing processed lumber for storage or shipment
- Maintain organized mill inventory and coordinate warehouse and material handling logistics
- Enforce all safety protocols, mill guidelines, and PPE requirements at all times
- Support process improvements, machine fabrication, and mechanical optimization when needed
Experience & Technical Knowledge (Preferred)
- Previous hands-on experience in a sawmill, lumber mill, or woodworking production environment
- Forklift operation experience required or ability to certify quickly
- Blueprint reading and understanding millwork & timber frame specifications
- Proficiency using power tools & hand tools for cutting, shaping, and finishing wood
- Warehouse operations experience including organizing inventory and materials
- Mechanical skills in general maintenance and troubleshooting are beneficial
- Carpenter skillset including accurate measuring, cutting, and wood assembly knowledge
- Strong understanding of safety standards in heavy industrial mill environments
