JOB LOCATION : Hospice
DEPARTMENT: AR - HOSPICE HOUSE
SCHEDULE: PRN, Varied Hours/Shift,
POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the Hospice of South Georgia Team and under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, the Hospice Nursing Assistant is responsible to provide personal care services and assistance in the activities of daily living as ordered within the guidelines of the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care. Maintains the Environment of Care, providing Homemaker Services in order to maintain the patient’s comfort and to provide a healthy, safe environment. The Hospice Nursing Assistant will have primary assignment to Home Care or Inpatient Care, but is expected to help in areas of need within any division/department of HOSG as directed by the Nurse Manager/RN. Assists with medication and supply pick up and delivery as needed. As agency need requires, may assist with clerical duties such as answering phones and/or call lights. Other responsibilities include maintaining inventory and organization of basic medical supplies and DME.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Preferred high school graduate or GED equivalent
- Required current State of Georgia certification.
- Minimum two (2) years varied work experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred
- Prefer training or experience with general office skills and medical terminology
- Demonstrated understanding of and adherence to the hospice philosophy and ability to work as member of interdisciplinary team in meeting the unique needs of the terminally ill.
- Must have positive attitude with demonstrated ability to handle delicate situations and to communicate effectively
- Must possess ability to work non-judgmentally with persons of diverse cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds and lifestyles.
- Must be self motivated with strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, handle pressure, and utilize critical thinking/problem-solving techniques.
- Demonstrated ability to respond well to supervision and work independently with minimal direction and appropriate collaboration when required.
- Ability to operate clinical equipment as well as office equipment such as computers, telecommunications devices, etc.
- Prefer current Georgia driver’s license with satisfactory driving record and the availability of a reliable, licensed and insured vehicle for use on the job.
- Must have current CPR certification.
Work environment may include hospice office, patient homes, nursing homes/ALF, and/or inpatient hospice unit with primary assignment to either Home Care or Inpatient Care environment. Expectation is to assist in either area as directed by RN/Nurse Manager. Generally assigned to a consistent shift with regular working hours according to assigned department. May require long, irregular, or flexible work hours including some weekend, evening, and/or holiday hours on either a scheduled or rotating basis. Daily interaction with persons under stress, having complex issues/concerns (end of life care), and/or with whom there is a need to respond to questions, problems or gain cooperation. Frequent/daily travel within service area required in Home Care setting. May also require occasional driving to hospital and/or pharmacy with either primary assignment in Home Care or Inpatient Settings. Physical work may require sitting, standing, bending, and frequent lifting or pushing objects (excess of 50 pounds), using correct techniques. May require extensive standing and walking. Likely to be exposed to blood, body tissue and fluids as well as other hazardous waste materials on a daily basis. Ability to operate basic medical equipment as well as office machines such as telephone, fax, copier, and computer required.
