JOB LOCATION : Main Campus

DEPARTMENT: POINT OF CARE TESTING

SCHEDULE: Full Time, 8 HR Day Shift, variable

POSITION SUMMARY Oversees the Phlebotomy; Client Services Supervisor, Phlebotomy Coordinator, and the Point of Care Coordinators to provide direction to the Phlebotomists, Specimen Processing area, Walk-In Laboratory, Reference Lab Staff, Couriers, Client Service Techs, and the point of care testing departments. Develop and maintain policies and procedures for all responsible areas. Has 24 hour accountability for the operations and staffing of all above areas in the laboratory. Maintains department budget. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and performing training and continuing education of all phlebotomists and client service techs. Keeps Hospital and Laboratory Staff educated for phlebotomy and specimen collections. Maintains existing business with current outside clients and physicians and assists in bringing new clients and Physicians on board. Responsible for improving customer service and satisfaction with laboratory services. Responsible for directing and monitoring PI processes and data collection for monthly reports by Phlebotomy and Client Services Supervisor. Establish, maintain, and deliver quality and efficient laboratory testing relevant to customer needs using appropriate policy, procedure, staffing, and budgetary management within TJC, CLIA ‘88, and OSHA standards and Point of Care Testing policy and procedure. Supports / oversees POCT processes and promotes optimal patient outcomes. Serves as a resource for Nursing Staff and other health care providers in performance of POCT. Functions to optimize patient outcomes by providing full assessment and monitoring of performance of POCT, and by resolving issues/problems, and assessing and documenting POCT staff competency. Provides regular and impromptu education and consultation services in POCT. Review literature for trends in POCT, and evaluate and develop new POCT procedures. Monitor current CLIA certifications for all outside entities of the organization that perform POC tests. Responsible for managing the Point of Care programs for the South Georgia Health System. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Education, licensure, and certification: Meets requirements for position as defined by CLIA ’88 standards and the Georgia Laboratory Licensure law (O. C. G. A. 31-20)Holds a bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology, or medical laboratory science from an accredited institution; and have at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both in non-waived testing in the designated specialty or subspecialty areas of service for which the technical consultant is responsible. Flexible in work schedule, assignments, workloads, setting priorities and utilizing problem solving techniques. Ability to formulate letters, memos, document clinical information, create policies and procedures, and provide learning opportunities. Ability to analyze regulations, standards, and clinical issues related to patient outcomes. Excellent verbal, written, and behavioral communication skills. Ability to work effectively with and assess learning/training needs of various non-Lab healthcare personnel. Ability to plan and conduct educational programs for a wide range of healthcare personnel based on objectives and effectiveness of programs. Ability to understand the duties and responsibilities of non-Lab personnel that perform POC testing and how such interact with POC performance. Utilize variety of office, educational, clinical and non-clinical equipment. Current valid driver’s license.
