Position Summary
The Shipping Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all shipping operations to ensure customer orders are delivered accurately, safely, and on time. This role leads the shipping team, coordinates with warehouse, production, sales, and transportation departments, and drives continuous improvement in shipping efficiency, inventory accuracy, and customer satisfaction. The Shipping Manager also ensures compliance with company policies and applicable transportation and workplace safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and supervise daily shipping operations.
- Ensure customer orders are picked, packed, and shipped accurately according to established schedules.
- Coordinate with warehouse, production, sales, inventory, and transportation teams to meet shipping deadlines.
- Schedule outbound freight and maintain strong communication with carriers and logistics providers.
- Monitor freight costs and identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce transportation expenses.
- Ensure compliance with DOT, OSHA, FDA, and all applicable company policies and safety regulations.
- Recruit, train, coach, supervise, and evaluate shipping personnel to maintain a high-performing team.
- Maintain accurate shipping documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, shipping records, and related paperwork.
- Investigate and resolve shipping discrepancies, damaged shipments, delivery issues, and customer concerns.
- Monitor inventory movement and collaborate with inventory control to ensure inventory accuracy.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time shipments, order accuracy, labor productivity, freight costs, and inventory accuracy.
- Assist with budgeting, staffing, scheduling, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure shipping equipment is properly maintained and operated safely.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Three to five years of experience in shipping, warehouse operations, or logistics.
- Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and ERP systems.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel.
- Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Two or more years of supervisory or management experience.
- Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification.
