American Vision Group is seeking a talented and qualified Optometrist to join our growing group. We are a leading national eyecare service platform, partnering with the most respected eye care practices in the country so providers can focus on delivering the best medical and surgical eye care services. As an optometrist, you will be expected to use your skills and knowledge to provide high-quality vision care to our patients. Your duties will include conducting eye examinations, prescribing corrective lenses, and determining patients’ visual alertness.
OPTOMETRIST RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct eye exams using optometric equipment and general diagnostic interpretation.
- Perform thorough routine eye inspections.
- Identify the patient’s visual alertness, field of vision, and hand-eye coordination.
- Diagnose sight problems and treat ocular disease.
- Prescribe, fit, and adjust eyeglasses, conduct lenses, other vision aids and medications.
- Maintain accurate medical files for all patients.
- Promote eye health by teaching patients about proper eye care techniques.
- Recommend appropriate patient follow-up and care options.
- Answer questions and provide advice to patients regarding vision and optical issues.
- Identify and assess eye defects and diseases such as diabetes and liver failure.
- Record all diagnosis and treatment plans including transfers and therapeutic prescriptions.
- Direct staff and assist in the development of the overall practice.
OPTOMETRIST QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- In-depth knowledge of general principals of optometry, using best practice for the diagnosis and eye-related disorders, conditions, and treatment.
- Applied understanding of general principles of optometry and best practices for the diagnosis and treatment of eye-related disorders and conditions
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to patients of diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
- General computer proficiency
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and multitasking ability.
- Maintain a high level of integrity and confidentiality of patient medical information, team member and employer confidentiality. Comply with all HIPAA regulations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry program.
- Active state optometry license.
- Valid CPR certificate.
- Two-plus years of Optometrist experience preferred.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of eye-related disorders and conditions.
- Customer service oriented with excellent analytical skills.
PHYSICAL PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:
- Requires full range of body motion with the ability to bend, kneel and stoop.
- Must possess:, the ability to sit and or stand for long periods of time, the ability to lift approximately 30 lbs., visual acuity with color vision, the ability to communicate effectively and calmly in a professional manner, the ability to follow all workplace policies including safety and confidentiality, the ability to perform repetitive motion keyboarding functions, Clinical – may requires exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to clinic environment.
- Knowledge of professional medical practice and ability to safely evaluate, assess and provide health care to patients.
- Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Must possess the ability to work with and around medical equipment and instruments safely and effectively.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care.
- Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition and interpreting findings.
- Skills in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.
- Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
