Job Summary:
The Specialty Clinic Float Nurse (RN) is responsible for learning all aspects of nursing in the Specialty Clinics including Transitional Heart Failure Clinic, Arrhythmia Clinic, Structural Heart Clinic, Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic, Device Clinic, Prevention Clinic and Cardio Oncology Clinic. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cardiology Nursing and the flexibility to work at short notice when other nurses call out.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Respects patient confidentiality and privacy by maintaining the security of all patient communications, per current HIPAA regulations.
- Identifies patient service requirement by establishing rapport with potential and actual patients.
- Responsible for triaging patient, by phone or in person. The nurse appropriately incorporates the use of established protocols, available information, the nursing process, critical thinking, prioritizing, and delegation to resolve patient issues.
- Ensures correct prescription by communication with the physician and the pharmacies regarding new prescriptions, medication changes or refills.
- Will educate patients on their medical conditions, symptoms that may indicate a worsening problem, and the possible effects or adverse reactions that may occur with medications.
- Review of diagnostic test results with physicians. Differentiates normal results from abnormal results and obtain recommendations from the physicians. Informs patients of results and recommendations.
- Routinely see patients in the clinic for both with the assistance of the Nurse Practitioner as well as independently per the workflows and guidelines set by each clinic.
- Patient appointments may include Preops, Post ops, or clinical management, including blood pressure management, medication titration, arrhythmia management and congestive heart failure exacerbations.
- When seeing Pts in the Specialty Clinics with the NP, the nurse will lead the appointment, use clinical judgement to present Pt to the NP, give recommendations for next steps, document all areas of care with attention to detail.
- Read and interpret ECGs
- Administers IV diuretics with continuous patient monitoring
- Administers injections subQ or IM as needed for medication administration
- Educating and monitoring patients on anti-arrhythmic medications, including routine patient assessments and follow-ups.
- Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties, explaining procedures, and answering questions.
- Is an active member of code blue team. Responsibilities include BLS/ACLS protocols.
- Acts as a resource for the medical assistants and non-clinical staff.
- Provides routine and emergent care as directed per protocol.
- Complies with federal, state, local and professional requirements and advises management of needed actions.
- Maintains a safe, clean working environment.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infectious control policies and protocols.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Nursing Required
- Current Colorado RN License
- At least 6 months of nursing experience, required
- ACLS and BLS within 3 months of hire
- Cardiology Experience Preferred
- Epic Experience Preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
- Ability to assist with adult patient in emergencies as needed
- Travel possible to multiple locations
