What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ph.D Graduate student position at South Dakota State University?
We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Ph.D. student to join Dr. Hafeez’s lab at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, College of Pharmacy, SDSU, Brookings, SD. Dr. Hafeez’s laboratory research is focused on various aspects of cancer biology, with a particular emphasis on dysregulated ribosome biogenesis and its role in tumor progression and therapeutic resistance. Dr. Hafeez’s lab is mainly focusing on GI cancers, particularly pancreatic and liver cancers. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, or a related field, and a deep interest in dissecting the molecular mechanisms driving cancer and developing small molecules as new therapeutics. Our lab investigates how aberrant biogenesis pathways—such as ribosome production, RNA processing, and protein homeostasis—contribute to oncogenesis and treatment failure. A major component of our work involves the use of various preclinical in vitro cell based assays and mouse models of cancer, including genetically engineered models and patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), to study these pathways in vivo and evaluate the efficacy of novel therapeutic strategies. The candidate will gain experience in advanced molecular techniques, in vivo imaging, tumor biology, and translational research, within a collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment committed to developing impactful cancer therapies.
The selected candidate will be provided with a full stipend, covering tuition, living expenses, and research-related support, enabling them to fully dedicate themselves to their training and research development.
