CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISOR-PLUMBING
SOUTH DAKOTA HOUSING DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY
DESCRIPTION: Primarily responsible for training and supervising inmates on the plumbing functions during the construction of the Governor’s Houses. The Governor’s House Program is funded by SD Housing and provides the opportunity for inmates at the Mike Durfee State Prison to build low-cost, low-maintenance, energy efficient homes for income qualified individuals and families.
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidate must possess excellent customer service and plumbing installation skills; experience working with a variety of clients; the ability to lift and carry heavy objects; knowledge of building codes and on-the-job safety; and the ability to communicate professionally. Successful candidate must have a High School Diploma or GED and three years of experience in the plumbing and/or HVAC field, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to install plumbing/HVAC systems. Being a licensed plumber is not required, but helpful. Because candidate will be supervising inmates, they must be able to attend, complete and pass all mandatory Department of Correction training required to work at a correctional facility. Candidates must possess a valid driver’s license and pass an extensive background check for SD Department of Corrections.
LOCATION: Mike Durfee State Prison, Springfield, SD
STARTING SALARY: Depending on experience. $27.84 per hour minimum.
BENEFITS: SD Housing pays 100 percent of employees health, dental and vision insurance plus a percentage of family coverage. Option for employer contributed Health Savings Account. Additionally, paid family leave, eleven paid holidays, and accrual of 15 vacation and 14 sick days annually. Participation in state retirement plan with SD Housing matching 6% and option to contribute to supplemental retirement.
