Join a collaborative and innovative University Marketing and Communications team as a part-time Information Officer. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the university’s web presence through digital content management, accessibility initiatives and day-to-day website support for the university.
University Marketing and Communications serves as the central communications office for the university. We foster and expand relationships with internal and external audiences and align communications initiatives and messaging with the university’s strategic direction and goals.
This position is in Brookings, South Dakota.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Support university-wide accessibility initiatives and contribute to University Marketing and Communications priorities.
  • Ensure digital content is accessible and compliant with federal accessibility standards while maintaining university branding and policy standards.
  • Assist with day-to-day web operations, projects, site support, training and related responsibilities in collaboration with the Web Communications Specialist, Digital Strategist and Web Developer.


Benefits:
This position is part-time at 45% and includes prorated leave benefits.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
  • Drupal or comparable open‑source content management systems, including module use and system capabilities.
  • Web accessibility, quality assurance practices and SEO principles, and how they apply to higher‑education websites.
  • Content strategy and layout best practices for organizing and presenting information effectively.
  • Standards‑compliant HTML and CSS, with an understanding of modern front‑end conventions
  • Hands‑on web development experience, including troubleshooting, implementing updates and supporting site functionality.

Skills and Ability to:
  • Work collaboratively across university departments and build strong, positive relationships with clients.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing deadlines and shifting priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance, layout recommendations and training to university web editors.
  • Communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical audiences, translating needs, ideas and feedback into clear, actionable solutions while delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Analyze and resolve information system issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective fixes.
  • Apply standard principles, theories and concepts of computer coding and design to support web development tasks.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service and training skills, ensuring users feel supported and confident in their work.

Comments:
This position is looking for an individual who can manage multiple projects simultaneously and demonstrates exceptional attention to detail. The role encompasses two primary areas of responsibility: The first is supporting the ongoing evolution of accessibility standards on sdstate.edu, while contributing to the university’s broader efforts to meet and exceed website accessibility compliance and remediation objectives. The second involves providing support and backup for the day-to-day web responsibilities conducted by the Web Communications Specialist, Digital Strategist and Web Developer.
