South Dakota State University is seeking a dependable, skilled, and service-minded individual to join our team as the General Services Lead Worker. In this role, you'll support daily operations by guiding work assignments, assisting with project coordination, and ensuring facilities tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Facilities and Services is the internal department overseeing the growth, maintenance, repair and changes of the facilities, infrastructure and grounds of campus and satellite locations. Work performed in the General Services area includes building maintenance work, setting up for events, material handling and moving, freight delivery, assembling office furniture/cubicle partitions, general carpentry work, locksmith work, door and door hardware repairs and maintenance, and asbestos abatement
This position is located in Brookings, South. Dakota.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Key Responsibilities
- Perform building maintenance tasks within Facilities and Services and General Services, including:
- Event setup and material handling
- Freight delivery and moving items
- Assembling office furniture and cubicle partitions
- General Carpentry work
- Locksmith duties
- Door and hardware repairs and maintenance
- Asbestos abatement
- Assist with providing work direction and training to permanent employees and student employees
- Act as supervisor in the absence of the group supervisor, including:
- Prioritizing, delegating, and assigning work
- Managing work orders, submitting purchase requests, reviewing invoices
- Communicating with stakeholders, verbally and in writing
- Preparing estimates
- Obtaining asbestos abatement Inspector and Management/Planner certifications within one year (training provided)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of
- Methods, practices, tools and equipment used for building maintenance
- Master key system (preferred)
- Low voltage mechanical systems for card access.
- Door hardware and lock installation/repair (preferred)
- Moving practices (preferred)
- Event setup (preferred)
- Read and understand construction drawings and general plans
- Use routine maintenance/construction hand tools and demonstrate mechanical aptitude
- Work safely
- Operate equipment such as forklifts, general construction equipment, and hand moving equipment (preferred)
- Communicate clearly in writing and verbally
- Provide good customer service
- Lift up to 50 pounds, bend, kneel, and climb
- Demonstrate positive leadership, work with a positive attitude, be flexible and receptive to a variety of work
- Perform supervisory functions including ability to use computers and basic computer programs
- Valid driver's license
- Asbestos Abatement Certification within 1 year
- Medical clearance to wear a respirator
