South Dakota State University is seeking an Accommodations Specialist to help create a learning environment where all students can thrive. This position provides academic support and disability-related services, offering individualized guidance, personal adjustment counseling, and coordination with campus and community resources to promote student success. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.
The Office of Student Accessibility recognizes disability as an integral part of the university community and works collaboratively with students, faculty, and staff to ensure access to learning environments and full participation in campus life. The office is part of the Student Engagement Center, which supports student success by fostering connection and community, removing barriers, and promoting academic, personal, and professional growth. The center brings together departments with shared goals to strengthen collaboration and elevate service to students, including Veterans Services and Engagement, the American Indian Student Center, International Student and Scholar Engagement, the Office of Student Accessibility, and Student Connection and Engagement.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpret documentation and advise students with disabilities in identifying and obtaining reasonable accommodations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential case management records in compliance with federal regulations.
- Collaborate with the director to develop reports, presentations, and materials that support the Student Accessibility Department’s mission to educate and inform faculty, staff, students, and families.
- Stay current on evolving legal requirements and best practices related to accessibility in higher education and pursue ongoing professional development.
- Assess and evaluate departmental processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Represent the Student Accessibility Department on interdepartmental committees and work groups that advance university strategic initiatives.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree plus three years related experience working with individuals with disabilities by start date.
- Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act 1973, and other relevant laws.
- Knowledge of various types of disabilities.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated verbal and written skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Counseling, Vocational Rehabilitation, or Education/Special Education.
- Experience with technology support tools.
- Experience working in post-secondary education.
