Position Summary
Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Industry Relations and Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing Beef Checkoff compliance, fostering strong relationships with producers and industry stakeholders, and supporting SDBIC programs and outreach efforts. This role is vital in ensuring accurate collection and remittance of Beef Checkoff funds, assisting with financial and audit processes, and leading producer engagement and education initiatives across South Dakota. The individual will serve as a key liaison between SDBIC, producers, auction markets, packers, and allied organizations to enhance understanding of the Beef Checkoff and encourage active participation in promotion, education, and research programs.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Checkoff Collections and Compliance
- Manage all Beef Checkoff compliance activities, including data entry, monthly reporting, remittance processing, and communications with markets, packers, dealers, and private sellers end of month reconciliations and spreadsheet management
- Liaise with producers, livestock dealers, auction markets, feedlots, packers, auctioneers, and the Cattlemen’s Beef Board to ensure full program compliance.
- Coordinate financial (annual) and compliance (triannual) audits in collaboration with the Executive Director and Cattlemen’s Beef Board.
- Monitor checkoff collections.
- Maintain accurate and complete compliance and remittance records.
2. Industry Relations
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with partners to build support for the Beef Checkoff.
- Act as staff liaison for industry and allied partner collaboration, developing cooperative programs that drive beef demand.
- Lead educational efforts through newsletters, local meetings, ETC.
3. Financial Coordination and Administration
- Assist the Executive Director with annual budget development and financial documentation.
- Collaborate with the external bookkeeper to manage accounts payable and receivable, ensure timely payments, and prepare monthly financial statements.
- Support administrative operations including meeting preparation, mail handling, document management, and office organization.
- Maintain office efficiency through strategic planning, filing systems, and procurement of supplies.
4. Program and Event Support
- Contribute to the planning and execution of statewide and regional SDBIC events, including educational programs, tailgate promotions, and youth or consumer outreach.
- Assist with producer and consumer communications, including material distribution, inventory management, and logistics coordination.
- Work closely with staff to ensure successful implementation of marketing and promotional initiatives.
- Represent SDBIC at local and national meetings, promoting South Dakota’s contributions to national beef efforts.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Communications, Business, or a related field. 2–4 years of relevant experience in agriculture, communications, compliance, or program coordination preferred. Strong knowledge of the beef industry and familiarity with livestock marketing and production highly preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with producers, partners, and team members.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through.
- Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and database applications.
- Willingness to travel within South Dakota and occasionally out of state.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
