PTA Full Time Faculty - Instructor Description
South College Knoxville is seeking applicants to fill a Physical Therapist Assistant Full-Time Faculty position. This faculty appointment has academic, service, administrative, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the academic program. The successful candidate demonstrates advanced competency in teaching, clinical practice, and curriculum development.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality instruction in each assigned course within the approved academic program curriculum.
- As directed by the appropriate Dean/Department Chair, provide assistance in the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the curriculum, including sequence of courses and student learning outcomes.
- Assist as directed in the writing, editing, and evaluation of course objectives and ensuring appropriate evaluation measures. Improvement measures should be sought and implemented as appropriate.
- Participate, as appropriate in the applicable School/Department, in the student advising process and institution/school/department committees.
- As directed by the appropriate Dean/Department Chair, assist with budget planning and problem-solving activities.
- Plan and participate in scholarship and service activities to assist in meeting the South College outcomes identified for these areas.
- Respond, in a timely manner, to specific and general information requests from the institution and administrative officials, prospective employers, professional organizations, public agencies, civic organizations, private foundations, general public, and students, as appropriate.
- Promote appropriate standards of linguistic expression in both written and oral communications.
This is an on-ground position located in Knoxville, TN.
Requirements
Education
- Required: Earned a Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited physical therapist assistant or physical therapist program.
- Preferred: Earned Master’s or Doctoral degree
Licensure
- Required: Licensed/registered/certified or eligible for licensure/registration/certification in the state where employed.
Experience
Required:
- A minimum of three years of full time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical practice
- A minimum of two years of clinical practice as a CCCE and/or CI or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a PT or PTA program
- Strong communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving, commitment to collaboration, and counseling skills.
- Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database) or proven ability to learn these skills.
- Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Able to meet the faculty requirements as stated in the Evaluative Criteria for the Accreditation of Physical Therapist Assistant Programs per CAPTE.
- Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
Preferred:
- Prior teaching experience in a physical therapist assistant/physical therapist academic program or equivalent coursework.
- Knowledge of education, management, and adult learning theories and principles.
- Advanced training as demonstrated via board certification, continuing education, etc.
- Member of the American Physical Therapy Association
- Active in professional activities at local, state, and/or national levels.
