POSITION VACANCY: Special Education Teacher (full-time – 12 months)
PROGRAM: Gallishaw High School
LOCATION: Seekonk, MA
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: July 1, 2025– June 30, 2026
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Jason Dorrance, Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
⮚ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited College or University.
⮚ Massachusetts Department of Education Licensure in Special Education Moderate Disabilities, 5-12 or Severe Disabilities, all levels.
⮚ SEI Endorsement.
⮚ Certification in CPR/First Aid within 30 days of hire and commitment to keep certification current.
⮚ Certification in CPI within 30 days of hire and commitment to keep certification current.
⮚ 7-D License within 30 days of hire and commitment to keep license current.
⮚ Participation in a mentor program that focuses on PBIS, SCERTS, & Deep Learning approaches.
⮚ Demonstrated ability to adapt to the needs of a changing student population.
⮚ Participation in an assessment designed to measure the participant’s competency in specific knowledge and skills described in the Massachusetts Frameworks for ELA and Mathematics.
⮚ Ability to lift 39 pounds independently.
⮚ Take and pass the online Ethics training and exam.
⮚ Three references or two letters of recommendation is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
⮚ Master’s degree in Special Education or current matriculation in a Special Education Master’s degree program.
⮚ Experience in transitional instruction and experience in implementing the Massachusetts Work Based Learning Plan.
⮚ Experience in classroom management and implementing student behavioral systems.
⮚ Understanding of the Deeper Learning six C’s, and the four elements and pedagogical practices.
⮚ Development of the knowledge and skills to design and implement Deeper Learning pedagogical practices.
⮚ Demonstrated understanding of collaborative problem-solving (CPS) or willingness to learn and adapt its principles and techniques with students, staff and families.
⮚ Experience with Project Based Learning.
⮚ Ability to use technology to enhance instructional and professional responsibilities.
⮚ Experienced working with students with social-emotional disabilities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
⮚ Provide leadership and manage a classroom team of paraprofessionals and therapists.
⮚ Ability to work as a productive member of the instructional team to maximize student outcomes.
⮚ Development of the knowledge and skills to design and implement.
⮚ Deeper Learning pedagogical practices.
⮚ Develop and implement an instructional program in in transition and life skills for high school age students with special needs.
⮚ Write reports, develop IEP’s, maintain data collection employing research-based best practice strategies to demonstrate student progress and adjust student goals.
⮚ Responsible for working with students in the community in a variety of transition related domains (employment, post-secondary education, recreation, daily living skills, etc.) and during these activities collect ongoing transitional data.
⮚ Work with expert consultants to develop effective support systems for students.
⮚ Develop positive relationships with families.
⮚ Other duties as required.
