Light Equipment Operator
(Non-Supervisory)
NATURE OF WORK:
Entry-level, full-time, non-exempt position requiring the safe operation of light equipment for maintaining solid
waste facilities. Operate safely in and around high traffic areas for disposal of waste materials. The applicant
must be capable of performing essential functions involving competing demands, multitasking, meeting
operational deadlines, delivering professional and courteous customer service, and effectively handling
customer complaints. Schedules may include extended hours, early mornings, evenings, weekends, and
holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Operate various types of light equipment, including but not limited to skid steer, backhoe & forklift.
* Complete preventative maintenance inspections (e.g., checking fluids, tires, lights) and minor repairs;
identify maintenance needing to be addressed by fleet mechanics.
* Duties such as cleaning loose trash, weed control, painting, sweeping and assisting other departments
as needed.
* Report safety concerns, hazards and faulty equipment to supervisor.
* Relocate and maintain traffic control devices (e.g., cones, jersey barriers) following safety and state
regulations in work zones.
* Perform other job-related duties assigned abiding by all Authority policies, procedures and departments
(e.g., recycling)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
* Minimum of two (2) years of experience operating various light equipment or equivalent.
Licenses/Certification(s):
* Minimum Class D, Driver’s License.
* No DUI or DWI convictions within the past twenty-four (24) months.
* No moving violations within the past twelve (12) months.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
* Workplace safety and customer service best practices.
* Computer and mobile device application data entry and use.
* Safe operation and maintenance of light equipment.
* Perform repetitive, short-cycle tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
* Communicate with staff and the public respectfully and professionally.
* Read and write basic instructions and record keeping.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL FACTORS
* Work is performed and includes exposure to all weather conditions, noise, dust, fumes, and dirt. Personal
protective equipment (PPE) is provided, including safety vests, gloves, shoes, respirators, hearing
protection, and eye protection.
* Employees must have the ability to frequently move or reposition up to 50lbs of materials or objects.
WORK SITUATION FACTORS:
* Subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
