Overview: The SCC TPRA (Teacher and Paraeducator Registered Apprentice) initiative is seeking (2) experienced and passionate elementary teachers or current paraeducators to serve as mentors for (1) of SCC's own that is going through their paraeducator certificate program. Two mentors are assigned to each of our practicum students for a total of (2) positions needed for this individual. This role is designed to support the professional growth and instructional effectiveness of fellow employees who are seeking the opportunity to become paraprofessionals.
This is an excellent opportunity for educators that are in "good standing", who have a minimum of 3 years of experience and who are committed to paraeducator development, educational equity, and advancing student learning outcomes at SCC elementary and across Iowa.
Responsibilities:
- Provide mentorship and peer support to our elementary educator seeking the paraeducator certificate through the TPRA framework (i.e. checklist of paraeducator competencies)
- Collaborate with Iowa TPRA leadership to align paraeducator practices with statewide goals.
- Observe and offer constructive, rubric-based feedback to mentees.
- Maintain open communication and build trust with mentees to foster professional growth.
- Submit required logs demonstrating competencies of participants.
Qualifications:
- Current or former elementary educator or paraprofessional at SCC with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Familiarity with the TPRA framework or willingness to be trained.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to a two-year mentoring relationship.
- Demonstrated passion for professional development and paraeducator development
Stipend and Commitment:
- Mentors will receive $500 per year, totaling $1,000 over a two-year commitment.
- Payment is contingent upon active participation and completion of mentoring responsibilities.
