School Nurse
Contract Length: 180 Days
Qualifications:
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Iowa.
- Must have or be willing to obtain Iowa Board of Educational Examiners (BOEE) authorization for school nursing.
- Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsement (commonly Health Education or other assigned area) for the teaching component.
- Preferred current certifications (or willing to obtain) in:
○ CPR
○ First Aid
○ AED
Job Summary:
The School Nurse / Health Teacher provides comprehensive school health services to support student health, safety, and academic success. This position includes approximately 1.0 FTE school nursing responsibilities with some light training and teaching responsibilities, typically in the area of health education or other assigned coursework consistent with licensure. The School Nurse promotes wellness, prevents illness and injury, manages chronic conditions, and ensures compliance with state and federal health regulations while also supporting student learning through classroom instruction.

The South Central Community School District is located in Northwest Iowa and serves the rural communities of Lake City, Rockwell City, Lytton, Lohrville, Lanesboro, and Jolley. Citizens enjoy the benefits of small town living while being in close proximity to Twin Lakes and larger towns including Carroll and Fort Dodge. Even Des Moines and Sioux City are within a two-hour drive.
District enrollment is 900 and holding steady. The district consists of three excellently maintained buildings and grounds with plans for significant renovations and improvements.
The South Central Calhoun CSD offers career and technical programs in the following service areas: Ag Education, Computer Science, Business, Auto Tech., Health Occupations, FCS.
