Position Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Peer Support Specialist to provide support, skills, and guidance to youth across Butler, Crenshaw, Coffee, and Covington Counties. This position operates within a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model, focusing on person-centered care, recovery support, family engagement, and early intervention for youth experiencing mental health or substance use challenges. In this role, you will use your lived experience to help youth build resilience, navigate services, and achieve recovery and wellness goals.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Lived experience with mental health or substance use disorder required
- Must meet Alabama Department of Mental Health (DMH) requirements for Peer Support services
- Strong communication, advocacy, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work effectively with youth, families, and community partners
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and reliable transportation required
- Must successfully pass a background check
- Must be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on youth needs
Responsibilities:
- Provide peer support, skill-building, and recovery-focused guidance to youth across Butler, Crenshaw, Coffee, and Covington Counties
- Utilize lived experience to support youth navigating mental health and substance use challenges
- Assist youth in developing coping skills, self-advocacy, and connections to treatment and community resources
- Collaborate with schools, community agencies, providers, and professionals to ensure comprehensive support and continuity of care
- Offer education, encouragement, and support to youth and their families
- Advocate for the needs of youth within community systems, treatment settings, and support networks
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in compliance with agency standards and CCBHC requirements
- Promote hope, resilience, and person-centered recovery within the CCBHC care model
ALL candidates must be able to type and have basic computer skills, possess a valid driver’s license, eligibility for coverage under center liability insurance and individually held vehicle liability insurance with a clear background check.
