Job Responsibilities

At Richland Construction C, performs various inspection duties on road and bridge construction projects as a certified inspector in at least THREE of the following SCDOT/ACI (American Concrete Institute)/SCDES (SC Department of Enviromental Services) certifications;

SCDOT Asphalt Roadway Technician;

SCDOT Earthwork, Drainage & Base Inspector;

SCDOT Concrete Field Technician;

SCDOT Foundations Technician;

SCDOT Pavement Preservation Level 1 (Asphalt Seal, Micro/Slurry Seal, Concrete Pavement);

ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I; and/or

SCDES Erosion Prevention & Sediment Control Inspector.

Performs inspection duties on construction projects in areas in which inspector certification is not required. Areas include but are not limited to pavement markings, grassing, sign installation, etc. Thoroughly documents daily construction related activities and field measurements on standard inspection forms and field diaries. Samples and performs various field tests on construction materials including but not limited to asphalt, concrete, and soil for compliance with applicable specifications. Monitors workzones on assigned projects by performing regular inspections and completing weekly 600.02 forms (Workzone Traffic Control Review) for day and nighttime inspections as directed. Perform survey duties with the use of survey instruments, metering devices, tape measures, and test equipment to establish and maintain the required construction line and grade. Assists in the training and development of construction inspectors.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience.

The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

Additional Comments

May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
