Job Responsibilities

Along the far-reaching stretch of Grand Strand coastline, Myrtle Beach State Park sits nestled among oceanfront maritime forest. A quiet, and surprisingly green, escape from the otherwise bustling beach, the park provides educational opportunities, a nature trail and some of the best surf fishing South Carolina has to offer as well as stunning ocean views and another great fishing spot on Myrtle Beach pier.

Job Purpose And Duties

Under general supervision assists with overall operation and maintenance of a state park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies, and standard operation procedures of the department. Assumes the responsibilities of the park manager in the absence of higher-level employees.

  • Manages the ranger staff to include hiring, supervising, training, and scheduling.
  • Approves and ensures working time and leave is entered for A1 and A2 rangers. Monitors holiday comp time for A1 rangers. Completes schedule substitutions in SCEIS to ensure working time for A1 rangers is correct.
  • Collects and accounts for revenue and produces required reports. Completes procurement card reports and PO's correctly and timely. Ensure Ranger staff collect, account for, and produce required reports for park revenue. Train and Ensure Ranger staff complete and submit Procurement Card Reports and PO's in correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Instruct, supervise, and performs continuous public relations activities with an emphasis on quality customer service and rule enforcement. Coaches the ranger staff on customer service and emphasizes the importance of balancing quality customer service with rule enforcement. Instruct, supervise, and perform rule enforcement activities within his or her authority and established policy. Ensures that the ranger staff is knowledgeable and comfortable handling rule enforcement situations.
  • Instruct, supervise, and interprets the cultural and natural resources of Myrtle Beach State Park to park visitors. Ensure that ranger staff Instruct, supervise, and interpret the cultural and natural resources of Myrtle Beach State Park to park visitors.
  • Instruct, supervise, and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings, and equipment. Produce work list for the ranger staff. Maintains a safe work environment and monitors the safety officer.
  • Practices and promotes teamwork within Myrtle Beach State Park, the ranger staff, and the agency.
  • Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

Associate degree in park management or related field with two (2) years of park ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Position requires medium to heavy lifting, walking, standing on uneven terrain, crawling, and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other materials used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Must possess a valid South Carolina driver's license. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to supervise others. Position requires residency in agency provided housing.

Additional Comments

Actual Job Location: Myrtle Beach State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
