Job Summary
The Correctional Officer II is responsible for maintaining safety, custody, control, and supervision of youth offenders. This role involves monitoring activities, enforcing rules, transporting youth, and responding to crises. Training is fully provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain custody, control, and security of youth in a secure facility.
- Supervise youth during daily activities, movement, and transportation.
- Enforce institutional rules, state laws, and required safety procedures.
- Use approved behavioral management and physical intervention techniques when necessary (training provided).
- Accurately document incidents, activities, and observations.
- Complete and maintain all required certifications, including CLEE certification within 90 days of hire.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- U.S. citizen and at least 21 years old
- Valid driver's license
- Ability to communicate clearly and remain professional under pressure
- Physically able to perform job duties, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and physically restraining youth when required
- Ability to work long shifts and respond to emergencies
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with at-risk youth
- Background in security, corrections, military, or related fields
Working Conditions
- 12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Potential exposure to verbally or physically aggressive behaviors
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
- May be required to work mandatory overtime
