Job Purpose:

The Deputy Director of Business Services is responsible for and stewards the administrative functions of the division, serving as the liaison to Human Resources, Training, Project Management and Marketing and Communications. This role also leads to divisional operational support, initiatives, projects, and pilot programs, while building collaborative relationships with MOU and other external partners.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and continuous improvement of division-wide operational systems, supporting the Division Director by managing internal workflows, maintaining systems, and ensuring key procedures run smoothly. Help organize team activities, track documentation, establish ROI for programs, and increase operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Division Director, Deputy Director, team managers, and partners to identify emerging needs and opportunities. Guide the identification and development of division projects and initiatives, including defining scope and objectives, overseeing execution throughout the full project lifecycle, and monitoring success metrics. Serve as the division lead for agency projects in collaboration with the agency Enterprise Project Manager.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for all human capital support functions within the division. Work in close collaboration with the Division Director and other Deputy Director(s) to support a high-performing team culture by providing consultative support on workforce needs, assisting with staffing and recruitment activities, identifying professional/training development opportunities, and contributing to organizational effectiveness and team engagement initiatives, including planning and mentoring efforts.
  • Provides division metrics, oversight and coordination with the Marketing and Communications division to ensure alignment with agency branding, priorities, and messaging. Oversee the intake, prioritization, and approval process for marketing tasks/projects across teams to promote consistency, accuracy, and impact. Focus efforts on storytelling, communication materials, initiatives to strengthen Business Services offerings through videos, social media, articles, and other communication channels.
  • Communicate and coordinate of all MOU- and partner-driven initiatives across Business Services to ensure alignment with agency-wide goals, consistency in execution, and elimination of duplication.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree and relevant program management, economic development, marketing, business or other related experience.

Must possess knowledge of Agency's mission, programs, and objectives. Knowledge of management principles. Knowledge of Agency's organizational structure, the people who manage the work and the processes applicable to government work. Ability to interpret and apply rules and regulations. Ability to manage work and provide guidance to employees. Ability to make presentations and prepare reports. Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships with agency partners, ability to communicate effectively; knowledge of South Carolina's business community and available resources; ability to plan, organize and direct complex projects; ability to strategize as it pertains to the Division's short and long-term goals.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Must be able to travel in-state and in the United States.
