Immigration Program Coordinator


Position Overview and Qualifications

South Brooklyn Sanctuary (SBS) is seeking an Immigration Program Coordinator with strong immigration paralegal experience to help coordinate our community-based legal programming for self-representing immigrants. Working closely with the Program Director and supervising attorney, the Coordinator will provide direct case support, coordinate legal clinics and workshops, and help ensure that community members receive high-quality, timely legal assistance.


We're looking for someone who is highly organized, fluent in Spanish, and has 1–3 years of immigration paralegal experience, including experience managing defensive immigration cases. The ideal candidate is comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicates clearly and compassionately, and is committed to standing in solidarity with self-representing immigrants by helping make the system more understandable to those moving through it. 



Position Details

This is a full-time position beginning September 8 and reporting to the SBS Program Director. The position is generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with occasional evening or weekend clinics and community events. Staff have flexibility to adjust their schedules to meet both organizational needs and personal responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities


1. Case Support

  • Assist with the preparation, filing, and tracking of immigration forms and applications, including asylum applications, motions, appeals, declarations, and change of address and change of venue requests. File documents with Immigration Court, DHS, and USCIS.
  • Conduct weekly outreach to community members with upcoming hearings and coordinate support, including attorney consultations and accompaniment referrals.
  • Maintain case records, hearing lists, and internal tracking systems. Familiarity with LegalServer preferred but not required. 


2. Program Support

  • Work with the Program Director and supervising attorney to coordinate legal clinics, workshops, and community education programs, including logistics, materials, communications, attendance tracking, and post-event reporting.


3. Volunteer Support

  • Work with the Program Director and Operations Coordinator to coordinate volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, communications, and participation tracking.



Compensation

The annual salary for this position is $70,000, paid on a biweekly basis.



Benefits

SBS provides an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA) of up to $1,000 per month toward employee health insurance premiums.



Paid Time Off


SBS offers generous paid time off and encourages staff to take time away from work. We close the office for a week in August and December. Time off is coordinated with supervisors to ensure continuity of services.
