Summary of Position:

The Director of Information Technology serves as the senior leader responsible for shaping and executing the organization’s technology strategy to support clinical excellence, operational efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and patient-centered care. This highly strategic and hands-on role provides leadership across all aspects of IT operations, cybersecurity, system integration, governance, and digital transformation. The IT Director supervises the IT department, collaborates across departments, and acts as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Planning

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive IT strategy aligned with organizational goals, clinical/operational/financial objectives, and emerging industry trends.
  • Lead digital transformation and infrastructure modernization initiatives, including migration to cloud environments, system optimization, and other organizational platforms.
  • Advise executive leadership on technology investments, emerging risks, and innovation opportunities.

Infrastructure and Systems Management

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of all IT systems including servers, network equipment, storage, VoIP, VPN remote access, content filtering, and cloud-based platforms.
  • Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of all IT systems including networks, servers, cloud services, disaster recovery, EHR environments, and endpoint devices.
  • Manage secure and seamless support for remote and hybrid staff, ensuring access to systems while upholding security standards.
  • Lead planning and implementation of major system upgrades, integrations, and architectural enhancements.
  • Provide high-level technical oversight for architecture design, system integrations, and network infrastructure, including hands-on troubleshooting as needed.
  • Oversee Device Management (MDM) systems to securely manage, monitor, and configure endpoints including smartphones, tablets, and laptops used across the organization.
  • Support EHR and other clinical systems, integrations, and peripheral devices.
  • Lead administration, configuration, and optimization of Microsoft 365 environments including email, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and security and compliance tools.
  • Implement and support O365 tools to enhance organizational collaboration, reduce silos, and improve productivity.

Technology Governance and Compliance

  • Establish and lead IT governance frameworks, including change management, cybersecurity, and disaster recovery programs.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, NIST and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee the development, maintenance, and enforcement of IT policies, procedures, and audit readiness.

Cybersecurity and Risk Management

  • Act as the organization's Security Officer (if not a separate role), overseeing risk assessments, incident response, identity management, and business continuity planning.
  • Implement robust cybersecurity strategies including MFA, SSO, zero-trust frameworks, endpoint protection, and network segmentation.

Infrastructure and Systems Oversight

  • Ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of all IT systems including networks, servers, cloud services, disaster recovery, and EHR, other clinical and operational/financial environments.
  • Lead planning and implementation of major system upgrades, integrations, and architectural enhancements.
  • Oversee the performance, functionality, and availability of mission-critical systems (EHR, HR, finance, data warehouse, telehealth, etc.).
  • Provide high-level technical oversight for architecture design, system integrations, and network infrastructure, including hands-on troubleshooting as needed.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and develop a high-performing IT team, including technical specialists across infrastructure, applications, helpdesk, cybersecurity, and other duties.
  • Recruit top-tier talent, manage performance, and foster a culture of innovation, accountability, professional development, and customer service.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional leaders and clinical stakeholders across the organization.

Budgeting, Procurement and Vendor Management

  • Develop, plan, advocate and manage the IT budget, optimizing costs while ensuring high-value technology investments.
  • Lead vendor and contract negotiations, including strategic partnerships for managed services, consultants, and cloud providers.
  • Evaluate, select, and onboard new technologies and services that reduce friction, enhance security, and drive productivity.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 7–10 years of progressive IT leadership experience in a healthcare setting (FQHC, hospital, or large clinical network preferred).
  • 3 years management experience
  • Strong technical proficiency across enterprise IT systems, including:
  • Clinical (EHR), operational (Paylocity) and financial platforms
  • Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and hybrid infrastructure design.
  • Microsoft 365 and Active Directory administration.
  • Network architecture including LAN/WAN, VPN tunnels, SD-WAN, Wi-Fi, firewalls, and multi-site redundancy.
  • Cybersecurity tools and protocols including SIEM, HIDS/NIDS, MFA, SSO, endpoint management, and vulnerability testing.
  • Identity and access management, zero-trust frameworks, and secure remote access.
  • Virtualization and containerization technologies (e.g., Hyper-V, VMware, Docker).
  • Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in hands-on system troubleshooting and performance optimization.
  • Experience managing enterprise ticketing systems and service delivery workflows.
  • Experience in healthcare organizations.
  • Technical certifications.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required. Or, at least 10 years of up-to-date, hands-on experience in a mixed OS, multi-WAN environment.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts to business stakeholders.
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills, adaptability, and emotional intelligence.

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to travel across sites as needed.
  • Available during off-hours when required for critical operations or incident response.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
